Some of you know that Ian has been experiencing some unexplained gagging and vomiting during dinnertime. Unfortunately, for some of you, you had the wonderful privilege of seeing Ian "up-chuck" his dinner, during his first birthday party. I know that was such lovely entertainment. After a few episodes over the last 3 weeks or so and wonderful looks from fellow dining members at a restaurant, this was becoming a high level of stress for me as I was fearing where and when would Ian have his next episode (eating out, dining with our homegroup, etc.); and of course, why? What was the cause.
I mentioned it to his pediatrician, at his 1-year wellness check-up. She made a note and we were to keep an eye on it. Well, Ian developed a fever the following weekend of which it didn't want to go away. And with his kidneys, grumpiness, sleeping poorly (totally not like him), I decided that it was time to take him in.
We saw one of our pediatricians, and after explaining other symptoms, he wanted to check Ian's kidneys, for which he placed what I like to call the "pee bag" on Ian to collect a urine sample. He continued to examine Ian when he discovered that he had an ear infection. However, he and I discussed how we believe that Ian was experiencing at least 2 underlining problems.
We discussed how Ian had acid reflux as an infant and how he was now experiencing eczema, for which the doctor said shows that Ian is hyper sensitive to something(s). We discussed his diet and how I was starting to think cows milk was not settling well with Ian as I was weaning him. I started the weaning process and introducing cows milk when Ian was about 11 months old. The other symptoms started appearing soon after. I had already started backing off the cows milk in fear that Ian was having some reactions to it.
In short, the doctor believes that Little Man is either experiencing a possible allergy to cows milk, acid reflux has returned and/or he is experiencing irritation of the esophagus, for which he had a fancier name for, causing him to be so irritated by dinnertime he gags and such. He said it could be a combination of the previously mentioned but that it could take some time to figure it all out.
So for now, Ian Baby Boy has been taken completely off of cows milk and put back on Zantac. He will stay on Zantac for a while and then I will slowly reintroduce cows milk. Ian's urine and kidney are fine. No UTIs. He will have his next renal scan in September. I am very happy with our pediatricians and how thorough they are with my kids especially given our medical history the last two years.
Skye was healthy for her Kindergarten Graduation and did such a great job singing with her fellow classmates and saying her line with such a sweet smile. She did such a good job memorizing her speaking part.
Paisley is great and is an absolute joy. She will be taking dance lessons for most of the summer and she is so excited for her birthday and the start of preschool in the fall.
